POTANE VS2690 Precision Vacuum Sealer Review

Overall Verdict
The POTANE VS2690 is a sealer with a sharp internal contradiction. The suction score of 9.6 puts it as easily the most powerful sealer we’ve tested so far, and the control panel is one of the better-designed we've seen. But the crunchy food breakage is 42.2% -- among the worst in this review group -- and the sous vide test required three attempts before a clean seal was achieved. With no Gentle mode to reduce suction for fragile or moist items, the powerful motor becomes a liability the moment you step outside dry food sealing.
The usability score of 8.4 reflects a genuinely pleasant day-to-day experience. Among the top-rated sealers we’ve tested at this price, the POTANE's performance ceiling is the issue.
Things We Like
- Strong suction score of 8.0 -- effective for dense dry foods
- Excellent control panel design
- Comprehensive indicator lights and audible chime
- Good build quality
Things We Don’t Like
- 42% crunchy food breakage with no Gentle mode to compensate
- Sous vide test required three attempts -- weakest moist food result in this review group
- No extra features of any kind
- One of the loudest sealer in our database
The VS2690 sits at the mid-range end of POTANE's vacuum sealer lineup. We tested it for a week in the lab across all performance, design, and usability categories.
7.5 Performance
The VS2690's performance score of 6.7 is one of the more misleading numbers in this review group. The suction result is genuinely strong -- 64 kPA matches the Anova Precision Pro's domain. But the other two tests pull it down significantly. Compared to the Inkbird INK-VS01 (8.6 performance, 63 kPA suction), the POTANE has similar power but weaker food handling results. Both failures trace back to the same root cause: a single Auto mode with no way to dial back the motor.
9.6 Max Suction Strength

The VS2690 reached 76 kPA in 21 seconds -- a strong result above the FoodSaver VS-0160's 64 kPA average, and 9 kPa over the Anova Precision Pro's 68 kPA. Dense dry goods are packed tight. For anyone primarily sealing grains, coffee, nuts, or other airtight-storage staples, the VS2690's motor is well-matched to the task.
5.8 Crunchy Food Breakage

The VS2690 broke 1.9 oz of the 4.5 oz input -- 42% breakage, one of the highest rates in our database. The same motor power that earns an 8.0 in the suction test applies its full force to fragile items before the seal completes. Crackers, chips, and similarly brittle foods don't survive. Without a Gentle mode, there's no mechanism to limit the damage.
This isn't an unusual finding for high-suction single-mode sealers, but it's worth stating plainly: if you regularly seal delicate foods, the VS2690 is the wrong tool.
5.0 Beef for Sous Vide

The VS2690 needed three attempts to pass the sous vide beef test, earning a score of 5.0 -- matching the Nesco VS-12 for the weakest sous vide result in our current review group. The first two seals failed under water bath conditions before the third attempt held.
Three attempts is a meaningful result. The high suction in Auto mode likely draws moisture toward the sealing bar during moist food cycles, compromising the seal before it can set properly. A Gentle mode would almost certainly improve this. Without one, sous vide use is unreliable.
7.7 Design
The VS2690 scores well on build quality and the control panel, with the lid pulling the design score down slightly. There are no extra features.
In the Box

- Accessory hose
- Two bag rolls (8" × 16" and 11" × 16")
- User manual and documentation
Dimensions

The VS2690 is a full-size, heavier sealer at 3 lbs. The relatively thin profile (2.88 inches) makes it easier to store on a shelf or in a cabinet, but the overall weight means it's a permanent countertop fixture for most users.
8.5 Build Quality

The VS2690 is well put together. The housing has a clean finish with no gaps or loose panels, and the lid mechanism is solid. The interior components -- foam gasket, heating bar, vacuum channel -- show no obvious manufacturing defects. The build feels more considered than most sealers at this price, and reviewers found nothing to flag after a full week of regular use.
9.5 Control Panel

The VS2690 has one of the more thoughtfully laid-out control panels in this review group. The buttons – physical and clicky – are clearly labeled and responsive, and the indicator lights above each button make mode selection easy to confirm at a glance. The panel earned a 9.5 -- the only thing keeping it from a perfect score is that, on our unit, you have to hit the button right in the center for it to click, which can be an annoying quirk when you’re in a hurry.
7.5 Lid

The lid uses latch locks on both sides. The mechanism works but requires more careful alignment than the better latch designs in this group -- our reviewer found they needed to press deliberately and evenly to get consistent engagement. It's operable one-handed with practice but not reliably so on the first attempt.
The hinges are solid and the lid doesn't wobble. The main friction is in the closing action rather than any structural issue.
0.0 Extra Features
No extras. At this price, the absence of even a bag cutter or bag hooks is a comparative weakness. Several sealers at lower prices include at least one of these.
8.4 Usability
The VS2690 is easy and pleasant to use for dry food sealing. The panel is well-designed, the noise level is very high (one of the highest in the database up to this point), and the indicator lights and chime are the best in their category. The lid close is the one recurring friction point.
8.0 Ease of Use

The VS2690 is straightforward to operate. The control panel communicates clearly and the buttons respond well. Bag alignment without hooks requires care but isn't difficult once the technique is established.
The lid is the consistent note. Getting both latch locks to engage simultaneously takes deliberate effort, and the margin for error is narrower than on sealers with better-tuned latch designs. It's manageable, not a dealbreaker, but it does slow down the workflow compared to a handle-lock sealer like the Anova Precision Pro.
9.0 Safety & Noise
Safety markings inside the sealer are adequate, covering the key hot-surface warnings. The VS2690 runs very loud -- the loudest in our database, as a matter of fact. But considering its extremely strong peak suction, it’s to be expected.
10 Indicator Lights and Chime

Both a progress bar and an audible chime. This combination -- the progress bar to track the cycle visually and the chime to signal completion without requiring you to watch -- earns the VS2690 a perfect score here. It's a feature set you don't find consistently even at higher price points.
