Inkbird Vacuum Sealer INK-VS01 In-depth Review

Overall Verdict
The Inkbird Plus INK-VS01 gets more done in a compact footprint than most sealers in its price range. Suction is strong for the size, the crunchy food result is acceptable, and it passed the sous vide test on the first attempt. The build quality is good throughout -- solid lid, responsive panel, and a built-in bag cutter that adds real convenience.
The one area that consistently holds it back is usability. The lid takes meaningful force to close, the indicator lights are few, and there's no chime. These aren't unusual shortcomings at this price, but they're felt more acutely when the rest of the sealer is performing at a higher level. Compared to the other well-reviewed sealers in this category, the Inkbird prioritizes power over convenience.
Things We Like
- Strong suction for a compact sealer
- Passed the sous vide test on the first attempt
- Solid build quality with no obvious weak points
- Built-in bag cutter is a useful inclusion
- Bag hooks simplify alignment
Things We Don’t Like
- Lid requires significant force to close and can't be operated one-handed easily
- Relatively few indicator lights
- No audible chime
- Design looks slightly cheap for the price
Amazon reviews for the INK-VS01 consistently praise its speed and sealing power. We spent twelve hours testing a new unit in the lab to see how well those claims hold up. Here's the full picture.
8.6 Performance
The INK-VS01's performance is the strongest argument for buying it. Suction is consistent and around what we’d expect from a budget sealer -- comparable to the FoodSaver VS-0160's 64 kPA with its 63-kPA maximum suction reading. The crunchy food breakage result is middling -- roughly one in four items was damaged -- which reflects the lack of a "Gentle" mode. The sous vide test was a clean first-attempt pass.
8.2 Max Suction Strength

The INK-VS01 reached 63 kPA in 17 seconds, which matches the FoodSaver VS-0160's 64 kPA result, the Inkbird proves compact sealers can deliver mid-range suction power. Black rice grains were packed tightly with no visible air pockets. For a sealer this compact, an 8.2 in the suction test is a strong result.
7.6 Crunchy Food Breakage

The INK-VS01 broke 1.09 oz of the 4.5 oz input -- 24% breakage. That's a middling result, and it's directly linked to the sealer having only one suction mode. With no "Gentle" setting to dial back the motor for fragile items, crackers and chips take the full force of the 63 kPA pull. The damage isn't catastrophic, but it's enough to be noticeable compared to the CALOTO AP-12X's 22% breakage in its single mode. If sealing crunchy foods regularly is a priority, factor this in.
10 Beef for Sous Vide

The INK-VS01 sealed the sous vide beef bag on the first attempt and held through the water bath without any leakage. A clean, straightforward pass -- the same first-attempt result as the CALOTO AP-12X.
8.6 Design
The INK-VS01 scores well across all four design categories. Build quality is solid, the control panel is clean and responsive, the lid is well-constructed, and the bag cutter and hooks are both practical inclusions. The only reason the overall design score isn't higher is the sealer's appearance -- the metallic lid finish looks slightly out of step with the price point in a way that draws attention to the plastic underneath.

Dimensions

The INK-VS01 is particularly compact in width and height -- at 3.9 inches wide and 1.6 inches tall it's one of the slimmest sealers we've tested. It sits noticeably lower on the counter than most models and tucks into small storage spaces without difficulty. The detachable power cord helps with this further.
9.0 Build Quality

Everything on the INK-VS01 fits together well. The lid doesn't wobble when lifted or lowered, the locking mechanisms engage cleanly, and the control panel is solid with no flex. The foam seal around the vacuum channel shows no signs of poor manufacture.
The one reservation is the overall impression of robustness. Compared to heavier sealers like the Nesco VS-12 or the Anova Precision Pro, the INK-VS01 feels lighter and slightly less substantial in the hand. Nothing failed during testing and the build quality is genuinely good, but it doesn't feel like a sealer that would survive a counter-edge fall unscathed.
A silicone plug covers the power cord port at the back when not in use -- a small but practical detail that keeps the port clear of dust and moisture.
9.0 Control Panel

Four touch-sensitive buttons on the lid panel -- "Food" to toggle between Dry and Moist modes, "Seal" for the heating bar only, "Vac Seal" for a full cycle, and a blue "Stop" button on the far right. A fifth "Vac" button is located inside the sealer's vacuum channel for use with the air hose adapter.
The layout is clean, the labels are clear, and all buttons were responsive throughout testing. Nothing to complain about here.
9.0 Lid

The hinges are solid -- moving the lid from side to side forcefully produced no wobbling or shifting. Latch locks on both sides engage evenly when you press down with both hands. Pressing the release buttons on either side of the unit pops the lid open cleanly.
The one consistent note is that the lid takes meaningful force to close. Both reviewers needed two hands and firm downward pressure to engage the locks reliably. One-handed operation is technically possible but awkward, particularly when the other hand is managing a bag.
5.0 Extra Features

The built-in bag cutter on top of the lid is well-placed and cuts cleanly. The bag hooks in the vacuum channel -- a pair of small raised clips -- hold the open end of the bag in position while you close the lid, which removes most of the alignment fussiness that budget sealers without them require. No bag holder or drip tray, which is standard for this size class.
6.6 Usability
The usability score is the gap between what the INK-VS01 does well and what it doesn't. Safety is well-handled, and the indicator lights are acceptable. But the lid -- specifically the force required to close it -- pulls the ease-of-use score down noticeably, and for a sealer that's otherwise performing at a higher level, the two-handed lid close is the persistent annoyance.
6.0 Ease of Use

The control panel is simple enough to learn in a single session. Bag alignment is helped significantly by the bag hooks. The lid is where the usability score is lost. Every cycle requires pressing down firmly with both hands to engage both locks, and the amount of force involved -- more than any other sealer in this review group except the Nutrichef PKVS18BK -- makes the process feel more laborious than it should.
If you're batch-sealing a large quantity of food, the lid becomes the most tiring part of the process.
9.0 Safety & Noise

Safety stickers inside the sealer cover the key warnings. At 83.2 dBA, the INK-VS01 is moderately loud -- within the normal range but noticeable in a quiet kitchen.
7.0 Indicator Lights and Chime

Four indicator lights track the current food mode and working state. They're visible but not especially bright. Using the progress bar allows you to track the sealing cycle, however, the lack of a chime means you can’t really step away from the sealer while it’s running without missing the end of the cycle.
