NutriChef Vacuum Sealer PKVS18BK In-depth Review

Overall Verdict
The NutriChef PKVS18BK is one of the better-looking vacuum sealers you'll find at this price, and it turns out the performance backs up the looks. Under our updated methodology it scored 8.0 overall -- strong crunchy food breakage results in "Gentle" mode and a perfect sous vide score on the first attempt put it well ahead of the original testing. The control panel is intuitive, the indicator lights are comprehensive, and loading bags into it is easy enough that you rarely need to consult the manual.
The two things that hold it back are the lid -- it takes real two-handed force to close -- and the noise. At 84.5 dBA it's one of the louder models in our top sealer lists. Compared to the quieter Mueller MV-1100 (81.2 dBA), the NutriChef trades noise for better overall food handling.
Things We Like
- Relatively affordable
- Visually appealing design
- Strong crunchy food breakage score using "Gentle" mode
- Passed the sous vide test on the first attempt
- Simple, intuitive control panel
- Bright and comprehensive indicator lights
Things We Don’t Like
- The lid requires significant force to close properly
- Motor is loud at 84.5 dBA
- No extra features of any kind
The Nutrichef PKVS18BK caught our eye the moment we unboxed it. The black-and-white housing has a glossy finish that looks genuinely premium -- unusual for the price range. We went into testing with high expectations across the board.
They were mostly met.
8.1 Performance
The NutriChef PKVS18BK's performance score of 8.1 is the result of two excellent sub-scores pulling up a weaker suction number. Suction is adequate but not impressive. Where the sealer genuinely stands out is food handling: only 5% of the crunchy food test load was broken in "Gentle" mode, and it sealed the sous vide bag cleanly on the first attempt. For most everyday use cases, this is a well-rounded result.
6.4 Max Suction Strength

The NutriChef PKVS18BK reached 52 kPA, which clears the 50 kPA threshold we look for in dry food sealing with some margin. The 22-second cycle time is reasonable. Compared to budget sealers like the BonsenKitchen VS2100 (35 kPA), the NutriChef's suction is noticeably stronger. For anyone primarily sealing dry goods, the NutriChef PKVS18BK will handle routine packing well.
9.5 Crunchy Food Breakage
In "Gentle" mode the NutriChef PKVS18BK broke just 0.21 oz of the 4.5 oz input -- 5% breakage, one of the better results in our database. The comparison to the Mueller MV-1100, which managed 6% breakage in the same mode, shows both sealers handle fragile items responsibly. Fragile items like crackers and chips came through the cycle largely intact. If you regularly seal crunchy or delicate foods, "Gentle" mode is the right setting and the NutriChef PKVS18BK handles it well.
10 Beef for Sous Vide

The NutriChef PKVS18BK sealed the sous vide beef bag on the first attempt, earning a perfect score -- matching the BonsenKitchen 2025's sous vide result. The seal held through the full water bath without any leakage. A clean result.
7.2 Design
The design is the PKVS18BK's best feature. It's clean, well-assembled, and the locking mechanism on the lid feels solid in a way that cheaper sealers rarely do. The one drawback is that it offers no extra features -- no bag cutter, no bag hooks, no drip tray. That's not unusual at this price point, but it does cost points.
In the Box

The NutriChef PKVS18BK comes in the box with the following:
- Sheets of pre-cut bags and uncut plastic bag rolls
- Air hose and adapter
- Warranty card and user manuals
Dimensions

The NutriChef PKVS18BK offers a compact size and reasonable weight for its price range. It won't hog your countertop space, unlike larger sealers like the Anova Precision Pro or the Nesco VS-12. Moreover, it's relatively lightweight, so if you intend to store it in a cupboard when not in use, you won't have any difficulty picking it up and moving it around.
8.0 Build Quality

The NutriChef PKVS18BK boasts excellent overall build quality, with a securely attached lid to the base through robust hinges. After rigorous tugging and shaking tests, there's no hint of flimsiness. The lid's top features a glossy material that initially looks great when the sealer is first unboxed. However, over time, this part of the lid tends to accumulate smudges from fingerprints and light scratches, so you’ll have to regularly clean the sealer if you want to maintain its look.
On the unit's bottom, you'll find white anti-slip feet that ensure stability during use. The interior is well-constructed with a patterned plastic inner plate. The foam strip surrounding the vacuum channel does a great job of forming a tight seal when the lid is closed to aid with the vacuum-packing process.
8.0 Control Panel

The NutriChef PKVS18BK's control panel on the lid has five buttons.
There are two mode-switching buttons, "Mode" and "Food," which allow you to adjust suction strength ("Normal" or "Gentle" with the "Mode" button) and select the food type ("Dry" or "Moist" with the "Food" button).
On the right, there's a "Seal" button for sealing without vacuuming, useful for creating sealing strips. The button to the far right is "Vac Seal," which both vacuums and seals the bag.
There's a "Stop" button on the far left side to pause the sealer during a working cycle.
Inside the sealer, there's an extra "Canister" button for use with the included air hose accessory, which connects to the interior port for vacuum-sealing compatible bags or containers.
There’s an LED strip at the top of the control panel that lets you track the working progress of the sealer.
8.0 Lid

The lid uses latch locks on both sides. Press down and they click into place; press the release buttons and the lid pops open. The mechanism is well-built and consistent -- no hunting for the right angle, no uneven engagement the way we see with cheaper latch designs.
The catch is that it requires more force than most sealers we've tested. Both reviewers needed two hands to close it securely. One-handed use is awkward, which is worth knowing if that matters to how you work.
0.0 Extra Features
No extras at all. Given the price, this isn't surprising -- the NutriChef is competing against sealers that also skip these features. But the absence of bag hooks does make bag alignment slightly fussier than it needs to be.
8.3 Usability
The PKVS18BK is straightforward to use. The panel is logical, loading bags is quick, and the progress bar means you always know where the sealer is in its cycle. The lid is the one persistent friction point -- it takes two hands every time, which gets old.
8.0 Ease of Use
The control panel is the main reason the PKVS18BK scores well here. The buttons are few, the labels are clear, and the distinction between "Dry" and "Moist" modes is about as much complexity as the sealer asks of you. Once you've run a few cycles, using it is second nature.
Loading bags is easy despite the lack of bag hooks. The vacuum channel is wide enough that getting the bag lip positioned correctly doesn't take much effort. Monitoring progress through the LED strip is a genuine usability win over sealers that offer only a single "working" indicator light.
The two-handed lid close is the one real annoyance. If you're batch-sealing and have one hand occupied, it becomes a problem.
9.0 Safety & Noise

The interior has multiple safety stickers covering the heating bar and warning against excess liquid. The coverage is thorough. One thing worth adding would be a high-visibility orange strip directly on the heating bar -- models like the Nesco VS-12 do this, and it's more effective at catching the eye than a printed sticker for users who aren't yet familiar with where the bar sits.
At 84.5 dBA, the PKVS18BK is on the louder end of the sealers we've tested. It's within a normal range but noticeably louder than quieter models like the BonsenKitchen VS2100 (76.1 dBA).
9.0 Indicator Lights and Chime
Four mode indicators above the "Mode" and "Food" buttons show your current settings at a glance. The LED progress bar on the panel fills during a working cycle and clears when the sealer stops -- it's a clean, easy-to-read feedback system.
There's no audible chime. You'll need to watch the panel to know when a cycle ends, which is a minor inconvenience. It's a common omission in this price range but still worth noting.
