BLACK+DECKER Dust Buster AdvancedClean+ HHVK320J10 Handheld Vacuum

Overall Verdict

The Black+Decker AdvancedClean+ HHVK320J10 is crafted from durable materials, this solid, self-standing vacuum features an integrated extra-long crevice tool, two-speed control, and an intuitive quick-release dustbin. Although its cleaning power is not particularly impressive, it still takes care of basic cleaning needs effectively. Its battery recharges quickly and provides up to 21 minutes of runtime, along with a power boost mode to tackle stubborn debris on challenging surfaces.

On the downside, the vacuum is somewhat lopsided, causing it to tilt upward during handling; the filter assembly can fall out accidentally when emptying debris; and the unit is not washable or water-safe. The vacuum is backed by a 2-year limited warranty.

Things We Like

  • High-quality build
  • Streamlined design
  • Long battery life

Things We Don’t Like

  • Balance can be awkward
  • Not washable

The Black+Decker AdvancedClean+ is popular with many households because it nails the basics: strong, consistent suction and a sturdy frame built to handle daily messes. However the weight distribution feels top-heavy, making extended overhead or awkward cleaning angles surprisingly tiring on the wrist. It’s a reliable workhorse for quick cleanups, but user ergonomics may be potential dealbreakers.

6.9 Performance

The BLACK+DECKER HHVK320J10 offers decent suction and performs well on flat surfaces like tabletops and floors. It is also relatively effective at cleaning car seats and footwells, handling larger debris like snack crumbs and fresh pet hair with ease. However, it struggles on uneven upholstery and cushiony seats, often leaving behind noticeable dust streaks and residue.

In terms of battery performance, it stands out among competitors in its class. The vacuum provides approximately 20 minutes of runtime on a full charge. While a full recharge requires noticeable patience, its ability to quickly top off after short cleaning sessions is a distinct advantage.

5.0 Fabric Chair Cleaning

Time
2m
Cleanliness
80%

In roughly two minutes, it cleared about 80% of the seat surface—an acceptable result for its voltage, even if not particularly impressive. While it handles crushed snacks and pet hair well enough, it lacks the raw power to pull fine particles like flour out from deep within fabric textures.

7.8 Car Cleaning

Time
1m28s
Seat Cleanliness
70%
Carpet Cleanliness
95%

The vacuum struggles with fine particles like flour, which easily settle into the pores of leather upholstery; it cleared only 70% of the car seat and left visible streaks behind. It performed significantly better in the footwell, achieving 95% cleanliness on the carpet, likely aided by the flat surface.

8.5 Battery Performance

Max Charging Time
5h03m
Max Operating Time
21m10s
Quick Charging Time
1h

The vacuum operates continuously for 20 minutes on a full charge, which is fantastic. Recharging from zero takes about 5 hours, but fortunately, a quick 5-minute cleanup session only takes about an hour to charge back up to full.

9.1 Design

The Black+Decker features a clever, self-standing design with a body-integrated dustbin and an intuitive release door for effortless emptying. Built to last, its thick, high-quality components easily withstand the occasional bump against hard furniture.

It is also one of the most feature-rich models available, offering two speed settings, a built-in crevice tool, and a battery indicator. While its double-layer filter isn't top-tier for filtration, the module is simple to assemble and disassemble, making routine maintenance an ease.

In the Box

The vacuum only comes with a charger and user manuals. The package doesn’t include any other accessories as the nozzle already has a built-in crevice tool.

7.8" (19.8 cm)
Width
6.3" (16.0 cm)
Length
15.5" (39.4 cm)
Weight
2.6 lbs (1.2 kg)

While bulkier than most cordless handheld vacuums on the market, its size is a direct tradeoff for a generously capacity dustbin. That large bin and its broad base are precisely what allow the vacuum to stand upright on its own, making the extra bulk well worth it.

9.5 Build Quality

Despite its somewhat toy-like color scheme, the Black+Decker AdvancedClean+ delivers impressive build quality. Its thick plastic construction and streamlined details span from the elongated nozzle down to the dirt compartment and internal filter system.

The quick-release door operates smoothly, with a solid, responsive latch that makes emptying debris effortless. The only minor drawback is the power button, which feels slightly cheaper than the rest of the machine, though it still functions perfectly.

9.0 Utility Features

Speed Settings

When it comes to features, this vacuum offers more than most of its competitors. It includes a standard setting for everyday cleanup and a boost mode for extra suction power, though using boost consumes more battery and heats up the motor quickly. To top it off, a simple display makes it easy to check charging status and monitor remaining battery life at a glance.

8.0 Filtration Quality

Layers

Filter Type
Cloth
Mask Type
Plastic

The filter module pairs a plastic pre-filter mask with a fabric layer, which is a cost-effective design typical of Black+Decker handheld vacuums. The outer plastic pre-filter excels at blocking larger debris, while the inner cloth filter captures fine dust and lint, making for a simple yet effective system.

On a full charge, the vacuum can yield ample suction using its boost mode. On the standard setting, it’s noticeably weaker yet still sufficient to pick up crumbs on a hard surface.

Dirt Compartment

Capacity
23.6 fl oz (697.9 ml)
Quick Release
Yes

This vacuum boasts a dirt compartment significantly larger than most models on the market, meaning fewer trips to the trash can. When it is time to empty it, the quick-release mechanism is fast, intuitive, and hassle-free. The button and latch feel impressively solid, opening smoothly with a single action and snapping back shut securely.

However, because the dirt compartment is built directly into the motor housing, rinsing it with water isn't an option, as any moisture could easily leak into the motor and cause permanent damage.

Nozzle

Integrated
Motor Module
Nozzle Length
Crevice Tool

The nozzle features a built-in pull-out crevice tool that extends the already long reach, ensuring the vacuum is always ready for tight spaces and awkward crevices. Unlike classic two-piece designs that route suction through a removable dirt bin, this nozzle is integrated directly into the body.

While this unified setup seamlessly complements the rear quick-release emptying door, it presents a major drawback: washing the nozzle with water becomes far riskier, as moisture can easily travel into the internal components.

Filter Module

Integrated
Dirt Compartment
Filter Change
6-9 months

The filter assembly features a straightforward, intuitive design, using a plastic pre-filter to guard the inner cloth filter against larger debris. This simple setup is a proven staple across countless top-selling handheld vacuums, offering reliable day-to-day performance. For optimal suction, Black+Decker recommends replacing the cloth filter every 6 to 9 months.

Charging Adaptor

Rated Input Voltage
120 V
Cord Length
80 inch

The included charger is designed strictly for 120V electrical systems, so you will need a transformer if using it outside North America. On the upside, its power cord measures roughly 80 inches (6 feet) long, giving you significantly more reach than many competing models on the market.

Accessories

Brush
No
Crevice Tool
Yes
Upholstery Tool
No
Motorized Brush
No

As mentioned previously, the vacuum features a crevice tool right on the nozzle, saving you the trouble of managing extra accessories. However, it does not include a duster brush or a dedicated upholstery tool.

7.2 Usability

Despite its size, the Black+Decker Dustbuster AdvancedClean+ is surprisingly portable. Its versatile two-speed operation optimizes battery efficiency, while the built-in charge indicator makes real-time power management simple.

However, the weight distribution causes the vacuum to tilt upward, making handling feel awkward during extended use. Additionally, washing the unit with water poses a major risk to the motor, and while the quick-release dirt door is a clever feature, the filter assembly has an annoying habit of falling out whenever you try to empty it.

7.5 Ease of Use

Our test results show that the vacuum's flexible power options handle a wide range of debris on various surfaces, including stubborn pet hair. Its 21-minute and 10-second runtime puts many competing cordless handhelds to shame, while the two speed modes allow for much smarter battery management.

Additionally, unlike models that rely on a basic charging light, this vacuum features a dynamic battery indicator. It gives an accurate visual reading of your remaining run time while in use and doubles as a clear status indicator while plugged in.

7.0 Handling

The vacuum is easy to carry around, but the biggest issue here is how the weight distribution makes it tend to tilt upward unless you deliberately angle it down. This back-heavy balance makes it a hassle to handle sometimes, especially when cleaning surfaces higher than hip level. Although the vacuum’s handle and finger space allows for a comfortable grip, the unit's weight distribution negatively impacts its handling.

7.0 Maintenance

The quick-release door is a standout maintenance feature, allowing you to empty the dirt bin with a single click. Removing the filter assembly for a water wash is just as simple, requiring only a light pull. However, the design has an annoying flaw: the filter assembly easily drops out when you tap the body to knock loose stubborn debris. Having to hold the filter in place defeats the convenience of the single-touch release button.

Even more concerning is the risk of water damage to the fixed motor module, which makes rinsing the nozzle and dirt compartment virtually impossible. Your safest cleaning option is wiping those areas down manually with a damp cloth, which can be a tedious process that detracts from an otherwise user-friendly machine.
