The AdvancedClean Swivel largely lives up to the expectations, fortunately, packing solid cleaning power and impressive build quality at a budget-friendly price point. Let’s dive into the details to see where this sleek handheld excels, and where it misses the mark.

This BLACK+DECKER CHV1410L vacuum cleaner has decent suction, performing well on flat surfaces like tabletops or floors. It is relatively effective for cleaning car seats and footwells when dealing with sizable debris (like snack crumbs) or fresh pet hair. However, it struggles with uneven upholstery surfaces and deep, thick weaves of carpets, often leaving behind noticeable dust streaks and residues. Its battery performance is nothing to write home about either, though it remains solid for a handheld vacuum of its size.

5.0 Fabric Chair Cleaning

In roughly 2 minutes, it cleared about 80% of the seat surface. While this isn't a particularly impressive result, it is still acceptable given its rated power. It is effective to an extent against crushed snacks and pet hair, but it simply lacks the strength to suck up dust (or flour) that has settled deep into the fabric.

When it comes to fine particles or crumbs small enough to pass into the pores of leather upholstery, the vacuum struggles. That said, flour dust that has settled deep into the carpet weave continues to escape the vacuum’s suction.

Two layers of filtration protect the vacuum motor: a plastic pre-filter mesh and a cloth filter. The pre-filter is specifically designed to trap sand and large debris, while the cloth filter catches everything from lint to dust. 

7.5 Build Quality

Every detail on the vacuum, from the integrated utility tools to the buttons, looks and feels premium thanks to Black+Decker's industry-leading build quality. Although most of the components (save for the motor’s internal elements) are made of plastic to keep the unit lightweight, it’s a thick, high-quality material that won't crack from occasional dings and bangs.

Both the nozzle and the dirt compartment are remarkably well-made, and the nozzle-release mechanism feels solid when removing it to clean out debris. What’s more, all buttons, including the power switch, feel responsive and easy to operate. That said, if you have relatively small hands, unlatching the nozzle can be slightly uncomfortable, as reaching the side latches requires you to stretch your hand quite a bit.

Motor Module

The vacuum doesn’t draw much power while charging, and its battery voltage allows for a nice amount of vacuuming force on full charge. One thing to note, however, is that this vacuum vents its air straight out the back toward the user, unlike most other models that vent to the sides, away from the user.

Dirt Compartment

The vacuum’s dirt bin provides a decent capacity that is more than enough for a full cleaning round, even if you run it for its entire 9-minute and 20-minute battery life. Moreover, its easy to release nozzle allows you to empty out the contents immediately afterward.

Nozzle

The swiveling nozzle connects directly to the dirt compartment and can be released to empty it. It features an integrated dusting brush that conveniently flips up and down, as well as an extendable crevice tool that can be pulled out for more focused suction and to access tight nooks and crannies.

Filter Module

The filter module detaches along with the dirt compartment, sealing off the back of the bin right before the motor. This layout makes maintenance highly convenient, as it leaves the motor module completely separate, allowing you to wash the compartment and filter without risking water damage to the electronics. For optimal suction, the manufacturer recommends replacing the cloth filter every 6 to 9 months, depending on how frequently the vacuum is used.

Charging Adaptor

The charging base is rated for a 120V electrical grid only, so make sure you have the appropriate voltage, especially if you are using it outside the US. The base holds the vacuum neatly in an upright position on any flat surface, and its power cord is roughly 66 inches long.

While the vacuum cleaner is not the absolute lightest on the market, it remains portable and easy to maneuver, even for those with a slighter build. However, despite a neatly designed handle and finger space that allows for a relaxed grip, the unit's weight distribution negatively impacts its handling. Specifically, unless the crevice tool is fully extended, the vacuum tends to tilt upward unless you deliberately angle it downward. This back-heavy balance makes it difficult to maintain proper suction contact, especially when cleaning surfaces higher than hip level.

To empty out the dirt compartment, just press on the release latches to the side of the nozzle to release it and dump out the content. Every part of the vacuum, from the nozzle to the dual-layer filter assembly, is completely washable, excluding the motor module. The pre-filter and cloth filter elements separate effortlessly, allowing for a quick and thorough rinse under running water in just seconds.
