Bissell is a trusted brand known for reliable, affordable, and highly functional vacuums. Their vacuums are often praised for their simple designs that get the job done without bells and whistles. Specifically, the Pet Hair Eraser is a standout; its specialized rubberized nozzles and motorized brushes effectively lift embedded fur from upholstery and carpets with ease.

This vacuum delivers exceptional suction, effortlessly handling everything from fine dust to larger debris on fabric surfaces like sofas, office chairs, and car interiors. Its high-power motor excels on porous leather and thick carpeting, where it pulls out stubborn trapped dirt with ease. While the raw suction is impressive, the included motorized pet brush is a game-changer, reliably lifting deeply embedded hair from fabric weaves.

The unit lacks a charging dock and cannot stand upright, making storage less convenient. While the 15-minute runtime is more than enough for quick tasks, the 7-8 hour recharge time is quite long and may scare off potential users. Overall, it remains a high-performing, reliable tool for targeted cleaning.

10 Fabric Chair Cleaning

The vacuum is remarkably efficient. In a record time of 50 seconds, it cleared 95% of the seat surface, easily navigating the contours of the cushions. The motorized pet brush effectively agitated the flour and pet hair, while the powerful vortex created by the well-engineered motor pulled the debris in with ease.

The vacuum is equally efficient on leather seats that are plagued with deep pores, easily extracting settled dust and grime that settle deep in those air pockets. Compared to lesser handheld units, its ability to tackle these challenging surfaces is truly impressive. It is also highly effective dealing with footwell carpets which trap dirt well underneath the thick weaves.

While the vacuum offers a respectable 15-minute continuous runtime, its 7–8 hour recharge time is a notable drawback. Furthermore, even a brief 5-minute cleaning session requires 2.5 hours to return to a full charge, which is slower than most of the models we’ve tested.

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser features a straightforward, well-designed build consisting of two main components: the motor module and the dirt bin. They snap together with a satisfying click and separate effortlessly at the push of a button. The vacuum is constructed from thick, high-grade materials that feel exceptionally durable and can easily withstand the occasional ding or bang against hard furniture. 

While it may not be the most feature-rich model on the market, what it lacks in bells and whistles it makes up for in quality. Additionally, its triple-layer filtration system ensures the motor remains well-protected from debris, which is crucial for maintaining its powerful suction over time.

The vacuum comes in a simple eco-friendly cardboard box with no glossy finish. This can take some users by surprise because chances are they are used to the showy, eye-catching packaging of most handheld vacuums. In the box, you can expect a charge adapter, utility tools including the motorized brush, and user manuals.

Dimensions

The vacuum is about average size and fits comfortably in typical cabinets. Although it can be larger than certain modern designs coming from Sharks and newer brands, it doesn’t feel cumbersome considering how much cleaning capability its motor and battery cells deliver.

9.0 Build Quality

Despite its somewhat toy-ish color scheme, the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser is highly impressive in terms of quality. Most of the build is thick high-quality plastic and it’s how the vacuums stay light yet durable. From the body casing of the motor module to the dirt compartment and its interiors, details are streamlined to a satisfying extent and fitted together nicely. We also notice that it doesn’t scratch as easily as the others we’ve tested.

There’s a few things that we can be critical of, such as the make of the button which doesn’t look and feel as nice as those of Black+Decker vacuums, but the overall quality stays on the upside.

8.0 Utility Features

The vacuum features a 1-speed operation with a simple press button. It has a simple power indicator that indicates charging status (blinking red turning solid green when full) and low battery warning (red).

9.5 Filtration Quality

The filtration module is made of three elements, each is a type of filter. The mask is lined with a layer of mesh metal, which fits onto the HEPA filter part that catches finer dust. Finally, the layer of foam filter right at the front of the air makes sure that anything that passes through the first two layers is caught, stopping it from getting into the motor module.

Motor Module

Out of the 7 models we’ve evaluated, this is the second strongest vacuum. It easily sucks up all kinds of debris even on challenging surfaces and textures, such as footwell fabric cushion and carpets in cars. In our performance tests, which were deliberately designed to exclude forcing the nozzle into the fabric for deeper cleaning, those that had outstanding suction automatically outperformed the others.

Dirt Compartment

The vacuum has very generous holding capacity. This means it requires less frequent dumpout yet performs consistently. It doesn’t feature a quick-release mechanic, but the ample volume is more than sufficient to accommodate a few cleaning sessions without the need to immediately clear it out. Plus, with how the filter assembly stays connected to the motor module, taking off the compartment and dumping out the dirt feels just as quick.

Nozzle

The dirt compartment itself serves as the vacuum’s primary airway intake, although it isn’t shaped like a nozzle as with the other models. Without an actual nozzle-shaped airway, the abundant vacuuming force is sufficient to catch the debris. Besides, you would have the motorized pet brush connected most of the time, anyway.

Filter Module

The filter assembly stays on the motor module, which is very convenient for quickly clearing out the dirt compartment particularly for vacuum cleaners of this design. As recommended by the manufacturer, the HEPA filter and foam filter should be replaced once every 6 to 9 months depending on how regularly it is used for optimal operation.

Charging Adaptor

The vacuum comes with a versatile charging adaptor that can adapt to power grids ranging from 100 to 240 V, which is globally compliant. The cord is roughly 72 inches long.

Accessories

Asides from the typical utility tools such as a crevice tool and an upholstery tool, the Pet Hair Eraser comes with a multi-purpose motorized pet brush. Unlike typical handheld vacuums, it doesn’t include a duster brush.

Simply put, this is a solid, straightforward cleaner. It features a highly versatile motorized brush extension that effortlessly tackles a variety of surfaces, from hard floors and plush cushions to contoured car seats. While the 15-minute runtime sounds brief, it is perfect for quick vehicle touch-ups, and a single charge can easily stretch across a few days of intermittent use. Though it isn't quite as ultra-compact as newer designs from Black+Decker or Shark, its classic design is still perfectly sized to tuck away in a kitchen cabinet or at the back of your car.

For its weight class, the vacuum is surprisingly easy to handle. This maneuverability is primarily due to its well-balanced weight distribution, which ensures a comfortable grip. While the handle design isn't particularly groundbreaking, its ergonomic angle and positioning prevent hand fatigue during use considerably.

Cleaning the dirt cup is as simple as pressing the release button to empty the contents. Except for the motor module, every component is fully washable with water, from the dirt cup itself to the entire filter assembly.
