Overall Verdict

After both going back and forth, the confrontation between the medium-sized Instant Omni Plus 18L and the large Ninja Foodie XL Pro came to a tie. Nonetheless, it was a satisfactory conclusion with both toaster ovens having their own moments to shine.

The two machines were equal in terms of interior and build quality by having more than four heating elements, interior lighting, a convection system, and a sturdy build. What gave the Instant a higher score in exterior and the edge it needs in the design department were its slide-out crumb tray and carrying handles.

Both units have similar scores in user control with their informative digital display and numerous features. However, the Ninja is significantly easier to use thanks to its wider timer and temperature range as well as its highly visible display.

The larger cooking chamber also means it’s easier to clean, not to mention the lack of nooks and crannies. As a result, the Ninja scored a returning goal in the usability department.

The most important aspect is still the performance—if the oven better cooked the food. The Ninja won it toast thanks to it having an extra rear nichrome heating element that toasted the bread more evenly. This feature also benefited the Ninja’s roasted chicken test, gaining another edge.

The Instant also has an extra top nichrome heating element but it wasn’t deployed for toasting. Nonetheless, the unit equaled the playing field with its excellent air-frying capabilities shown in the fries test.

Both units have the same power output and a convection system, so it was hard to determine the reasons why one unit was better at cooking certain food than the other. Overall, we deemed the Instant better for air frying and the Ninja for larger servings of food.
