Etekcity Lasergrip 1080 vs. Mecurate IRT600A Digital Infrared Thermometer

Overall Verdict

This pairing, as of June 2023, is fairly cut-and-dry. While the Mecurate IRT600A is among our top performers, the Etekcity Lasergrip 1080 is at the bottom tier. It’s one of the few thermometers that got a failing score in our benchmark.

The Etekcity did well in the cold test but failed in the hot test, giving readings that were several times off the temperature of the oil. Our benchmark gave the thermometer a 1.63 out of 10 score. Together, it gets a performance score of 4.1 out of 10.

Meanwhile, with its high performance score of 6.9 out of 10, the Mecurate is the clear winner performance-wise.

But not only that, but the Mecurate is also better than the Etekcity in design and usability.

All in all, there’s no reason for you to pick the Etekcity Lasergrip 1080 over the Mecurate IRT600A (or any other thermometers in our database, for that matter.)

Pros & Cons

  • The handle is textured and has indents that improve the user’s grip
  • Solid build quality.
  • Has several measurement modes.
  • Practical laser emitter with 13-point patterning.
  • Easy to handle with a clicky, tactile trigger.
  • Bright, colored VA display panel.
  • Comes bundled with a meat thermometer
  • Poor accuracy on the hot test with cooking oil
  • Metallic clicky sound in the trigger seems to suggest a manufacturing defect
  • Unreliable readings. Multiple continuous scans are required before the thermometer “re-calibrates” itself and output more accurate results.
