We have a septic system at home. Is the GE GFC1020N 1 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal compatible with septic systems, and are there any special considerations we need to keep in mind?

In principle, garbage disposals don't affect septic systems as long as the tank is sufficiently large and that you're mindful about what is thrown down the drain. Using garbage disposals will increase the amount of organic solids and water that enter the septic tank, and that may lead to more frequent pumpbing. But whether that's an issue depends on the size of tank. In some cases, the difference in frequency is unnoticeable. The other concern is the oil and grease that may be present in the food you're disposing of. Even if you're not on a septic system, categorizing your oily foods is advised as it helps facilitate better draining. Fruits, vegetables, or even air-fried food are reasonably safe.
