InSinkErator Evolution Advanced Series 1 HP Garbage Disposal

Overall Verdict

Since the day of its release, the Advanced Evolution 1.0HP’s superiority has been recognized for its premium build quality and industry-leading technologies. Underneath its streamlined casing and stylized appearance, a powerful 1-horsepower induction motor and stainless steel grinding components make up strong and durable machinery. Additionally, the disposal’s advanced noise treatment, with anti-vibration and sound-dampening details, and 4-stage grinding mechanics designed for finer output further enhance its utility and values.

There’s also an EZ connector that helps immensely with hardwiring the unit. Given its features, the disposal is understandably expensive, but if you’re looking for something premium and long-lasting, this is one of the best. It also comes with InSinkErator’s 10-year We Come to You warranty, ensuring your peace of mind.

Things We Like

  • Anti-vibration details
  • Noise-damping shell
  • Premium build
  • Fine output
  • Auto-reset circuit breaker
  • EZ hardwire connection
  • 10-year in-home warranty

Things We Don’t Like

  • Heavy
  • Costly

The Evolution Advanced 1.0HP is arguably the best-looking garbage disposal on the current market. Boasting multi-stage grinding mechanics that help ensure drain-safe output, and a combination of anti-vibration and noise-insulation details, it delivers on many fronts. In short, the disposal appears superior in terms of usability and durability in comparison to the others, albeit its steeper cost.

7.6 Performance

With a few minor hiccups, the disposal delivered solid results throughout the tests and challenges we put forth. Compared to the others we’ve evaluated, it tends to take its time with the process and releases generally finer and more reassuring output when dealing with common food scraps including fruit pits, corn cobs, or cooked animal bones, greatly reducing the risk of clogging.

Its multi-stage grinding also delivered strong results when being challenged by raw bone scraps. It’s not the best with raw bones we’ve evaluated, but it certainly ranks among the top five most powerful units we have tested.

The disposal delivers impressive output quality dealing with random scraps from 11 types of foods. In roughly 3 minutes, everything from celery, avocado peels, to cooked chicken bones, was thoroughly processed. The majority of the fish bones were broken down, save for a few tricky pin bones.

Materials caught by the filters indicated efficient grinding and reassuring output quality. Samples also appeared heavily pulverized and indistinct, upon close inspection. In comparison to the other models InSinkErator offers, the 1.0HP release noticeably safer output.

5.7 Raw Fish Scraps

The 1.0HP struggled with raw fish remains. The disposal was somewhat successful at breaking up and pulverizing chunks of the spines and tails, but it couldn’t finish the job in 3 minutes. The leftover tail and skin was in an overwhelming amount, although passable. We certainly did expect the disposal to do better,

Scraps that gathered in the two filters were shredded to a certain extent. That said, the results were far from drain-safe, which was a definite step down from the discontinued Evolution Excel 1-HP.

7.8 Raw Chicken Scraps

For this test, the disposal showed up much better, taking only 2 minutes to process 99% of the input. The state of leftover output quality showed that the disposal wasn’t able to fine-grind everything, having the most trouble with the slippery and spongy tissues. However, it managed most of the tricky parts, like cartilage and skin. The results were far from drain-safe, but it provided valuable insights into the efficiency of the disposal’s 4-stage grinding.

9.3 Design

Frankly speaking, the Advanced Evolution 1.0HP is the best-featured garbage disposal on the market, offering excellent construction, functionality, and one of the first to employ auto-reset circuit breakers. It boasts a high-quality protective casing, integrated with industry-leading noise treatment. The shell casing is also aesthetically pleasing and strategically trimmed to save space.

In addition to its multi-stage grinding, the disposal features stainless steel grinding components and a high-torque induction motor. These motors are admittedly more prone to overheating than permanent magnet motors, but they stand the test of time with proper maintenance.

The Advanced 1.0HP has a comparatively spacious grinding chamber with more than 30 fluid ounces of holding capacity. But the chamber is not particularly deep, so anything that’s too long such as chicken bones or celery stalks may poke through the sink baffle at times. The disposal has augmented grinding details that increase the chance of breakage and optimize the quality of output. Visually, you can check that there are more teeth on the disposal’s grating ring compared to other current InSinkErator disposals. Plus, all components are made of stainless steel to stand the test of time.

Not unlike other InSinkErator garbage disposals, the machine runs on a durable Dura-Drive induction motor. Technically, they all have the same speed at 1725 RPM. However, our measurements have shown the actual velocity is most consistent at 1480 RPM. Keep in mind that this was done with nothing in the chamber, therefore no torque.

10 Build Quality

Noise Reduction

Vibration Reduction
Yes

The disposal has arguably the best builds on the market in terms of craftsmanship and features. Multi-stage grinding aside, the disposal utilizes a wide range of technology from anti-vibration modules (at the collar and discharge output) to noise-insulation encasing. Moreover, the design is a treat to the eye thanks to streamlined details and quality composite materials. There are also gripping pads to the sides of the body, which is very useful giving its weight. The space-saving trimmed bottom is also a nice little touch that screams “premium”.

8.4 Usability

When it’s not dealing with tough raw meat scraps, the Advanced Evolution 1.0HP runs like a dream. It’s certainly the quietest disposal on the market thanks to InSinkErator’s renown noise treatment. In terms of installation, the disposal is the easiest to install thanks to its supporting features and included accessories. That said, the chamber can be a little too small for long scraps like celery stalks, possibly frustrating with ones that don’t break easily—chicken bones, for example.

9.0 Ease of Use

The disposal is heavily featured with industry-leading technologies and craftsmanship, subsequently benefiting usability. With renowned durability, quietest operation we’ve tested, and most advanced stabilization on the market, there are very few things to say about the 1.0HP other than praisings. As a result, it’s a much more satisfying experience overall using the machine in comparison to the others in our labs.

In addition to its 10-year in-home warranty, maintenance is usually undemanding thanks to the disposal’s premium construction. However, the motor gets hot if the disposal runs for too long, so make sure to use plenty of water when grinding.

7.0 Installation

Even for a 1-horsepower garbage disposal, this has some weight to it, but it’s not overly bulky. Understandably, maneuvering and installing it in the tight space beneath a sink can be a bit tricky. Fortunately, InSinkErator has improved its design, making installation simpler than with older models. Plus, the included EZ Connect adaptor simplifies the hardwiring process, making setup even more hassle-free.

10 Smooth Operation

Despite struggling with output quality when processing raw meat scraps, the disposal is generally one of the least bothersome among the many models we’ve checked out. Most importantly, the disposal doesn’t shy away from most common foods even in toppling amounts, handling everything with Vigor.

5.0 Unjam Mechanics

The disposal can be manually un-jammed from the outside. Use the provided Jam Buster wrench or any Allen wrench of the same size to access the slot on the bottom of the machine.
