Overall Verdict

Much to our surprise, the Moen GX100C scored lower than the GE Disposall Green in performance evaluation, despite having more power in the motor and seemingly better specs. If you look at their prices online, the Moen disposal costs roughly $50 more than the GE. Basically, you have every reason to believe that the GX100C should be the better product here.

Compared to the Moen GX100C 1 HP, the GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP has a smaller build with a much weaker motor, a tighter chamber, and a less detailed body. They both utilize high-speed permanent magnet motors and, interestingly, the exact same layout for the grinding components that seem to come from the same manufacturer.  The grinding parts in both machines are all stainless steel.

In theory, the GX100C should outperform the Disposall Green, but time after time across all three categories in our evaluation, including random scrap mix, raw fish scraps, and raw chicken scraps, the Disposall Green yielded better results. The GX100C was particularly disappointing at grinding down raw chicken bones, which was supposed to be large garbage disposals’ key selling point.

All that said, we don’t mean to say that the Moen GX100C 1HP is an ineffective garbage disposal; in fact, it is quite decent in dealing with common food scraps. But as far as values go, its grinding capability doesn’t feel well worth the compromise of cost and cabinet space. Between the two products, the GE Disposall Green 1/2 is easily the more cost-effective one.
