InSinkErator Badger 5XP 3/4 HP vs GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal Side-by-Side Comparison
Overall Verdict
To inspect the key differences between the GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP and the InSinkErator Badger 5XP 3/4 HP, we focus on their grinding chambers and motors. On paper, the Badger 5XP should have the upper hand in this showdown as it has more power. In reality, the Disposall Green is the better-performing garbage disposal with a more effective motor-chamber combination.
For a small unit, how the Disposall Green handled our evaluation tests was rather remarkable. To be specific, the disposal was able to deliver solid results when dealing with random common food scraps and impressively held its ground against raw meat scraps.
Meanwhile, the Badger 5XP struggled to churn out passable results, even failing one of the tests. What frustrated us the most was how the Badger 5XP couldn’t effectively handle scraps from normal foods, either; by that, we mean its output was very chunky. It can break up chicken bones (cooked or uncooked) pretty well, though.
Our working theory for the staggeringly differing results is that induction motors are not as efficient as permanent magnet motors—at least with garbage disposals. We also think that the Badger 5XP's chamber is too large that it reduces the chance of breakage.
In short, we think the GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP is the better choice here since the two products cost roughly the same. We do recognize the build quality of the InSinkErator Badger 5XP 3/4 HP as it is a well-crafted machine, and this would be a much harder debate if the disposal worked better.
