InSinkErator Badger 5 1/2 HP vs GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal Side-by-Side Comparison
Overall Verdict
Being around for a long time, the InSinkErator Badger 5 1/2 HP has been proven effectively durable with years of reports to support it. However, its design seems officially outdated now when put next to a newer generation of garbage disposals such as the GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP. With better and smoother motors, these disposal models are capable of better efficiency.
When we compare small garbage disposals, we mainly focus on how they handle themselves against random kitchen scraps like citrus peels or avocado pits, even cooked chicken bones and fish bones. In this category alone, the Disposall Green outperformed the Badger 5 rather easily as the Badger takes much longer to produce passable results.
It was somewhat the same story with raw meat scraps, only with a bigger gap. Here, the Disposall Green impressed us by how poised it was when processing raw chicken and raw fish scraps. The Badger 5, in its turn, failed both tests. Although small garbage disposals are not fit to process raw meat scraps as they aren’t strong enough to produce drain-safe output, these tests highlight how capable newer 1/2 HP models actually are.
The only thing the Badger 5 has over the Disposall Green is its well-known quality; people who have spent years with a Badger 5 often vouch for its motor’s long lifespan and how the disposals usually last. The Disposall Green costs about $20 more (in sale seasons, they’re practically the same price) and is a much younger model whose support can’t compare yet. Though that may be, its impressive performance has definitely won us over.
