Overall Verdict

It’s hard to believe that a small unit like the GE Disposall Green 1/2 HP could compete with a larger, full-horsepower unit like the InSinkErator Badger 1 HP. In terms of specifications, the Badger 1 HP should easily take the battle with its high-torque motor and full-metal build. But in reality, the Disposall Green delivers much more impressive results.

The thing that stands out the most is the two machines’ ability to process bones because it’s where you expect the Badger 1 HP would be the better performing one. Sadly, not only did it not deliver, the Badger flat-out failed one of the two tests for uncooked meat scraps. Though the disposal is not too bad at breaking down chicken bones, the sizes of the output materials are often not reassuring.

By contrast, the Disposal Green handles itself well against raw bones. The output is a long way from being drain-safe, but at least the disposal didn’t fail. The Disposall Green also beats the Badger by leaps and bounds in dealing with common food scraps. It was quite puzzling how such a small grinder outperformed its bigger and more expensive opponent.

All that said, the InSinkErator Badger 1 HP is not an ineffective product: It has a strong build quality by experienced craftsmanship and could take care of your daily food discards, given they’re not too tough. Then again, you have the GE Disposall Green which is a more compact option that saves you money; plus, the data shows that it grinds better. I’d pick the latter—but that’s just me.
