Overall Verdict

Looking at our test results, the Nesco Non-Stick Electric Skillet ES-08 is a more reliable and versatile option, while the Ovente Non-Stick Electric Skillet SK11112B is best avoided despite its lower cost.

The Nesco’s compact size ensures the most even heat distribution and the fastest heating time among all tested skillets. However, this high conductivity requires caution as temperature spikes can easily burn delicate foods like pancakes.

Nonetheless, it was still better than the Ovente’s rapid heating that makes it too hot for cooking delicate foods like pancakes and proves unstable for precise tasks such as searing steaks. It’s great for stir-frying meat and veggies though.

The Nesco is deep enough to submerge a pack of instant ramen, making it ideal for college students. The skillet's hard padded base, however, does not grip surfaces well, necessitating careful handling to prevent spills with hot liquids.

The Ovente features a double-walled design for added burning protection, but its small 2.5-quart capacity limits its utility for liquid-based dishes. Moreover, the thin aluminum pan deformed under high temperatures, raising concerns about its durability and longevity.

Both skillets have a PFOA-free Teflon non-stick coating that simplifies cleaning but its use might not be favorable to all consumers.
