CRUX Electric Skillet 14620 vs OVENTE Electric Skillet SK11112B Side-by-Side Comparison
Overall Verdict
As two medium-sized skillets of different shapes, both the Crux Electric Skillet 14620 and the Ovente Electric Skillet SK11112B have their own strengths and weaknesses. Overall, the former remains a better choice but not by much.
The Crux had better heat distribution but its temperature stabilization point was too low to cook food optimally. Pancakes turned out average at best, and the heating cycle was unsuitable for achieving a perfectly medium-rare steak.
However, it was still better than its opponent. The Ovente’s rapid heating made it suitable for stir-frying meat and veggies but too hot for delicate foods like pancakes and too unstable for precise cooking tasks such as searing steaks.
Despite being double-walled for extra protection against burns, its 2.5-quart capacity is too shallow for liquid-based dishes. Additionally, the thin aluminum pan deformed under higher-than-normal temperatures, raising questions about its durability.
On the other hand, the Crux stands out aesthetically with its gray exterior and polished copper linings. Unfortunately, the pan rim's coating showed signs of chipping, and the base had grainy specs protruding, but it was not as big a problem as with the Ovente.
