Hario Mizudashi vs Ovalware Side-by-Side Comparison
Overall Verdict
On first inspection, the Hario Mizudashi looks very appealing. The tall and slender glass carafe is very catchy and it’s an easy fit for any refrigerator door. Although cleaning requires a bottle brush and care for the delicate glass, the plastic and nylon filter has a convenient removable base.
That said, the Hario Mizudashi produces a weak and sourish brew. This is due to the filter being too short, the brew ratio unfavorable, and worst of all, the vessel is not airtight. For these reasons, we do not recommend the Hario Mizudashi as a worthwhile cold brew coffee maker.
The Ovalware, by comparison, is a well-designed cold brew coffee maker. It has a long stainless steel immersion filter, and the carafe has a thin neck and wide base favorable to brewing. While it may be too wide for small refrigerator doors, its silicone base has a very comfortable fit.
