Ninja SS151 TWISTi Blender DUO Tested and Reviewed

Overall Verdict

The Ninja SS151 TWISTi is one of the most well-rounded blenders we’ve tested. In use, it blends quickly and stays efficient across a wide range of ingredients, be it frozen fruits, raw nuts, leafy greens, or whole ice cubes. Even better, it rarely needs constant attention. Light blends usually take care of themselves, and for thicker mixes or dense spreads, you simply twist the built-in tamper a couple of times to keep everything moving.

What's also nice is the balance of power and convenience. Besides the 5 presets that give you an easy pick for whatever you're making, it also includes Auto iQ. This is a program designed to manage the pulses and breaks automatically, making it easier to get smooth results. And as long as you’re pouring regular sized servings, its largest 34 oz cup can feed about 2-4 people.

So if you want something space saving without giving up performance, you'll definitely love this Ninja TWISTi blender.

Things We Like

  • Despite the compact footprint, its 1600-watt motor can handle almost all types of ingredients.
  • It’s smart, easy to use, and packed with useful features, such as the built-in tamper.
  • The build quality is decent for what you pay.
  •  It’s designed as a 3-in-1 unit with three distinct containers.

Things We Don’t Like

  • The 34 oz capacity is better for personal or small-family use, not for serving a large household in one go.

Ninja has a lot of blenders with different looks and personalities. Some come with the exclusive stacked blade setup. Others are more personal-sized with a sporty vibe. And now there is another model that feels more distinctive, thanks to a built in tamper.

On top of that, the extra cups come in different sizes, which makes the whole setup more flexible. You can run a full batch when you want, then switch to a smaller personal blend without digging out the big container again. Less hassle, less cleaning, and more time enjoying what you make.

And yes, it has more up its sleeve for your kitchen. So keep reading—we have everything you want to know about this Ninja SS151 TWISTi blender Duo, including the highlights, the drawbacks, and what it is best used for.

9.2 Performance

Our experience with this blender was very positive. It did well in all of the five tests and came out with impressively high scores. It isn't perfect, and you’ll still notice a few limitations in tougher situations. But for its price range, it outperforms many competitors. We would even say it gets close to the results you normally expect from much more expensive, well-known models.

9.7 Smoothie

Tina conducts a smoothie test using banana, pineapple, apple, kale, and milk. She records the time on her phone and, after specific time frames, scoops a spoonful of the smoothie and spreads it on a sheet to evaluate smoothness. She repeats the process until the best blending result is reached.

Silky Smooth

This test isn't too challenging since the ingredients were fresh, so it was naturally soft and easy to blend. Only the kale is slightly trickier. Instead of sinking into the blades, it often sticks to the sides or gets caught in pockets, which makes it harder to fully break down unless the blender can create strong circulation. Surprisingly enough, this TWISTi formed one fast with ease.

We ran it using manual control, rather than relying on any preset programs, and right when the machine got started, it pulled everything down into the blades forcefully. Within just one minute, everything was blended smooth enough to drink without any grittiness in your mouth.

However, we still decided to keep blending a bit longer and noticed it could get even smoother, reaching its best state at around 1 minute 30 seconds. This result is seriously impressive because it's only slightly slower than the Vitamix 5200, a blender that costs way more. For anyone looking for a machine that can help them work greens into their diet, this is a perfect choice.

9.0 Frozen Fruit Smoothie

Tina adds frozen mango, pineapple, strawberry, and milk to the Ninja SS151 TWISTi Blender Duo to evaluate its frozen smoothie performance. She times the blend using her phone and twists the built-in tamper to enhance circulation. After blending, she spreads the smoothie on a sheet to check the texture.

Smooth

For this test, we went with frozen fruits, including mango, pineapple, and strawberries and blended enough for two large glasses. That portion size is what we used for every blender in this lineup, and most of them breeze through it. Here, the problem is the container. It's smaller, slimmer, and narrower, while our fruit pieces were cut fairly big. That's why circulation started a bit slowly at first. However, that early slowdown did not last long.

With a bit of help from us using the tamper, the fruits broke down little by little, the vortex strengthened, and once everything was circulating well, the blender finished the blend in just a few more seconds.

Overall, it took around 1 minute 30 seconds to churn out a batch of chunk-free frozen drinks. If we had chopped the fruit into smaller pieces, it would likely have finished even faster.

Even so, we are very pleased with the outcome, especially considering how demanding the ingredients were and how other blenders struggle in this same situation. And because it finished so quickly, the icy and revitalizing feel we got here was at its perk. You can notice a light sprinkle of tiny strawberry bits, but they were so small they didn't bother the texture at all.

9.3 Protein Shake

For the protein shake test, Tina uses almonds, dried blueberries, oats, milk, and protein powder. She times the process on her phone, twists the tamper while blending to keep ingredients circulating, and then strains the drink through a fine mesh strainer, which is meant to trap any leftover residue.

Smooth

So far, the Ninja TWISTi is among the fastest in this test. The recipe was oats, dried berries, almonds, and protein powder, and the blend wrapped up in around 1 minute. That time was very much competitive with well known models like the Vitamix E310 and NutriBullet SmartSense. And sure, the outcome's quality was also closely matched.

Nothing large was left behind and the oats were fully liquified, so the shake tasted pretty smooth and we didn't get a rough, sandy mouthfeel.

But what we liked most is how hands off it was. We didn't have to interfere much since everything got blended right after we hit the start button. Plus, the blades did a great job of catching ingredients. They also helped keep the vortex steady, so everything stayed in motion and blended evenly.

To be honest, this blender made this test look easy, in contrast to many other blenders, such as the Hamilton Beach. After straining, the sieve caught a few tiny flakes, and you might notice them slightly, but we don't think it's a deal breaker. For a grab and go shake, this is still a very solid result.

8.5 Almond Butter

To test the Ninja SS151 TWISTi Blender Duo, Tina makes almond butter. She times the blend on her phone and assesses smoothness by taking a spoonful, spreading it thin on a sheet, and showing how creamy it is.

Smooth

This is one of the toughest jobs for any blender, and not because almonds are hard to grind. The real challenge is getting the nuts to release enough natural oil for the mixture to transform from dry crumbs into a spreadable butter.

In our testing, only premium Vitamix models could push past that stage in roughly one minute. For most blenders, it takes twice, sometimes even three times as long, and this TWISTi is no exception.

It needed extra time for the almonds to warm slightly from friction and for the blades to keep working the mixture until the oils came out and everything could be emulsified. But getting to that turning point demanded a little effort from us. And it was not as simple as using the tamper. Once the nuts were fully crushed, the paste sat lower in the cup where the tamper could not reach, so we switched to a spatula to stir and guide the mixture back to the blades.

In the end, we got a smooth almond butter in about two and a half minutes, and it spread easily on just about anything. That result especially stood out next to the Ninja BN701, where the stacked blade design seemed less efficient at fully breaking down the nuts and encouraging oil release.

You may spot small bits inside, but that is by choice, not because the blender could not go smoother. Plenty of people love a crunchy style for the extra texture and bite, so we called it good and ended the test here. If you prefer it silky, a longer blend should take it closer to the ultra-silky finish.

9.0 Crushed Ice

Tina crushes ice with the Ninja SS151 TWISTi Blender Duo. During the test, she twists the built-in tamper to keep ingredients moving, and midway through she uses a spoon to stir the contents for more even crushing. At the end, she pours the crushed ice into a black tray so the texture is easier to see.

We used roughly 12 oz of ice cubes, which is a demanding amount for this cup. And with that much ice, there was less room for the pieces to tumble, so circulation slowed down and the cubes somehow pressed into a firm pile.

The blender still crushed all of the ice, and that is a big point in its favor. Just so you know, it didn't consistently reach a snow-like finish. Some of the ice broke down quickly, while part of it got compacted near the blades and stopped getting refined into a finer shave. We tried stirring to break up the pile, and it helped for a moment. Still, after a few seconds of blending, the ice settled and compacted near the blade area again.

Overall, we'd call it a solid ice crusher. To get closer to shaved ice, it helps to reduce the amount of ice and pause more often to keep the crushed pieces from packing down. You can also use the Pulse function so you can stop every few seconds, stir or shake the cup, then continue without the ice compacting as much.

9.4 Design

This TWISTi may not be Ninja’s newest or most feature packed blender, but it's the most attractive one in our eyes, and more importantly, the details here are not just for show. Each piece, from the cup sizes to the tamper, has a clear job that makes blending smoother and more convenient. Plus, the price is not too high once you factor in the extra accessories and the updated tech built in.

As mentioned above, the Ninja TWISTi is designed with a space-saving footprint. Hence, it fits neatly under cabinets, doesn't require a big dedicated spot on the counter, and when you are done, it is easy to tuck away as well. If you usually make drinks for several people at once, a larger blender might suit you better. For a small family, though, this size is just right.

9.0 Build Quality

The Ninja TWISTi Motor Base and Container

You are not getting an all metal, premium build here and many components use mid-grade materials. However, the construction still looks dependable and well made for what you pay. Moreover, the parts are sturdy in hand and the overall assembly feels secure. The polished exterior also makes it feel more refined, so it holds up better when you are moving it around, wiping it down, and using it often. So far, the build has met our expectations, and after many rounds of testing, there's no concerns about wear or durability.

The blade assembly includes 6 long prongs that spread out from the center, plus 2 smaller upper fins positioned above them. In fact, that is more cutting edges than most blenders, which often stop at two, and four is already a step up. Simply put, this is a standout setup, with edges that cut fast and a shape that supports smooth circulation.

On top of that, this blade assembly is interchangeable, which means it works with all three containers to help you save time and keep things less cluttered. At the end of the day, you aren't juggling multiple blade parts just to use different containers.

The base is rated at 1600 peak watts. In Manual mode, it runs for 60 seconds per press to reduce the chance of the motor overheating, while Auto-iQ programs follow timed blend and pause patterns and stop on their own. And in case the motor overheats, don't worry—it has a thermal safety shutoff that requires a short cool-down (15 minutes) before you can run it again.

You're also getting a set of suction feet built under the base for extra stability. On slick countertops, the grip can be so strong that it can make the base a little harder to lift. Still, that tight hold is exactly what prevents it from sliding and keeps everything stable while blending. We’re only noting it here so it does not catch you by surprise later.

All of them are lightweight and BPA free, and the smaller two include spout lids, which are perfect for sipping on the go. The measuring marks are also helpful, especially when you want consistent portions without grabbing an extra measuring cup. Up to now, we have not spotted any discoloration or typical plastic wear. Even if light cosmetic signs show up later, it is unlikely to impair their performance.

Furthermore, there is a tiny removable cap on top. Ninja calls it the drizzle cap, and when you lift it off, it opens a small hole so you can add a small amount of ingredients while the blender is still running, like oil, syrup, milk, or extra liquid. It can also work as a quick peek point to check how the blend is moving.

Instead of giving you lots of speeds and knobs, the control panel uses a small set of clearly labeled buttons. The Auto iQ program buttons sit together, and the manual buttons are separate, so your eyes don't have to hunt around when you are in a hurry.

Another thing you should know is that the panel doesn't fully light up until a container is attached properly. That helps prevent accidental starts when the base is sitting idle.

Our Ninja TWISTi also has a small digital screen built into the center of the control panel. It is not a touchscreen, but it’s still a nice feature to have. Whether you are blending quickly for a smoothie or running a thicker recipe that needs more attention, the screen keeps you aware of time and progress, which makes the blender more predictable to use and you can get your preferred texture anytime.

8.5 Usability

It is quick to learn and easy to start, with controls that feel straightforward. Still, we recommend reading the instructions first. That’s because this blender does a few things a little differently than typical models, and it is good to know that early. All things considered, our experience was pleasant, and we honestly had a great time using it.

9.0 Ease of Blend

Most of the time, you can just let it run without repeated stop-and-start cycles. When the mixture gets thicker, you may need to use the tamper or pause briefly to push ingredients down, but this small step is simple, clean, and well worth it. We also like the one-minute running limit, which is helpful if you are multitasking and not watching the clock.

Besides that, the jar is wide so you have more room to work with, and the drizzle cap is handy when you want to check consistency or add ingredients halfway through. As long as the jar is not overloaded, the blending process is mess-free and easy to manage.

All in all, with the features designed for maximum convenience, the blending experience is reassuring enough that you won't find yourself second-guessing the purchase.

6.0 Noise Level

Ninja TWISTi High-Speed Blender operating noise level
Max Level
105.1 dB

We tested the noise by blending ice cubes with water, and it peaked at around 105 dB. That is loud, like a motorcycle close by, so it can easily drown out normal conversation. On top of that, the pitch sounds fairly high, which can get annoying. The upside is that the blending time is short, so the noise comes and goes quickly.

9.0 Assembly

Compared to many typical blenders, the Ninja TWISTi asks for a bit more attention during assembly. The lid, pitcher, and base all need to line up properly.  You will understand it quickly, but it still takes a short learning curve to get the alignment right every time. The blade assembly is easy to remove and reattach as well, with just a simple twist.

9.5 Cleanability

Cleaning the Ninja SS151 TWISTi Blender

Everything except the motor base can go in the dishwasher. If you wash by hand, liquid-based blends are not a problem, and they usually rinse clean without much scrubbing. However, the challenge often shows up with thick spreads or emulsifications, because oils can coat the surfaces and trap residue in small areas. In those cases, a simple rinse is rarely enough, so soaking helps a lot. Having a small cleaning brush on hand also makes a big difference for the bottom grooves and tight corners. And since the blade assembly is removable, you can reach those tricky and get a more thorough clean, compared to blenders with fixed blades.
