The Ninja BN301 Nutri-Blender Plus Personal Blender

Overall Verdict

Whether you’re blending your very first smoothie or saying goodbye to an old, tired blender, the Ninja BN301 Nutri-Blender Plus may be the compact little game-changer your kitchen has been waiting for. It’s powerful, works consistently, and above all, it’s extremely well-designed.

Of all the machines I’ve tested, the BN301 is by far the most stylish and the most intuitive to use. It isn’t perfect, to be fair, but it handles just about everything you’d expect from a personal blender and then some. This means that, in addition to smoothies and protein shakes, it can crush ice, emulsify sauces, and help with quick ingredient prep when you need to save time.

Our BN301 also comes with two extra cups and three tight-sealing lids, giving you added convenience without taking up much storage space; the whole package is pretty easy to tuck away after each use. So, for anyone seeking a heavy-duty personal blender that isn’t limited by its size, the Ninja BN301 is a great option.

Things We Like

  • With a small size comes surprisingly powerful performance, whether you’re preparing a quick smoothie or crushing through icy ingredients.
  • The included extra cups and lids make the blender fairly practical for busy routines, meal prep, or quick grab-and-go drinks.
  • The push-to-blend operation is easy to grasp and creates a more hands-on experience that many users may enjoy.
  • Three blending 20-oz cups all work well for personal drinks.
  • It isn’t nearly as noisy or harsh-sounding as many poorly made personal blenders.

Things We Don’t Like

  • Thick blends occasionally need a quick shake or stir to keep ingredients circulating properly inside the cup.

Some personal blenders get popular for a reason. Others get popular because of good marketing, and that is a very different thing. That’s why we decided to be the guinea pigs here, putting this blender through real mornings, real ingredients, and real cleanup before calling it worth your money. If you're trying to figure out whether this Ninja BN301 Nutri-Blender Plus belongs in your kitchen, you're in the right place since this review will make that decision a lot easier, for sure.

9.0 Performance

The BN301, powered by a 900-watt motor, did a great job circulating ingredients as it worked, delivering a nearly perfect result in every test. In fact, it wasn’t our strongest performer overall (the Ninja Fit and NutriBullet Pro claimed that title). Still, this blender is by no means a compromise pick, unless you think every personal blender should deliver full-sized blender-level performance with zero sense of personal boundaries. The BN301 does exactly what it was built to do, and it does it with minimal fuss. If you like your smoothies thick, icy, and café-style, this blender won’t let you down either. It’s also among the quietest machines we’ve had our hands on.

8.7 Protein Shake

Smooth

Surprisingly enough, as soon as we turned the BN301 on, the blending action looked smooth and consistent right away. The ingredients started circulating from the bottom up without getting stuck. The sound stayed even the whole time, which usually means the motor isn’t under too much stress. It didn't spike or slow down, even during the thicker stage at the beginning.

You do have to press and hold the cup while it runs, and some people may find that slightly inconvenient, though it was over pretty quickly, just about a minute and ten seconds.

The result wasn’t silky smooth, with a few small chunks remaining, but that wasn’t exactly a fair expectation. Especially when no blender in our test could turn this recipe into a perfectly clean, residue-free shake, since some texture was simply part of the deal.

Even so, the shake was still enjoyable to drink; it wasn’t harsh or unpleasant, just a little grainy at most, and in most cases, a little extra blending time would help smooth things out further.

9.0 Frozen Fruit Smoothie

Silky Smooth

Given how tough the frozen fruit was, this test wasn’t as simple as it looked, which explains why more than a third of the blenders we tested have failed to deliver an acceptable result. Of the ones that made it through, the BN301 was one of the rare few that didn’t just pass, but remarkably excelled.

Frozen ingredients are dense, icy, and quick to melt, thus a weak or slow blender can leave you with the worst of both worlds: a smoothie that is runny, chunky, and nowhere near as thick as it should be. Thankfully, the Ninja BN301 didn’t leave us with any of that—it had the power for this job, and its blades pulled the fruits down and crushed them really well. It also didn’t take much effort in doing so, though, we did have to stop once in a while and shake the cup to free a few pieces. To be honest, however, it shouldn't be a deal killer, at least for us.

So, with a little help along the way, the smoothie came out silky smooth in about 1 minute and 10 seconds, which was slightly slower than the top picks but still much faster than many blenders in the same range (for more context, you can check out our Oster and iCucina reviews to see what we mean.) Beyond the quick blending time, what we liked most was the consistency; the whole thing tasted super cold, super refreshing, and couldn't be more welcome on a warm day.

9.0 Fibrous Greens

Fine

In this test, every personal blender had the same fixed blending time: 20 seconds to blend kale, spinach, and celery with water. We knew that was fairly short, but the game was never about giving the blenders an easy win. We intentionally kept the window tight to see how well each of them could break down tough greens under pressure.

As it turned out, the Ninja BN301 still lived up to the hype here. Its blades got to work right away and powered through the greens without any struggle. We also noticed that the mixture moved well inside the cup, so the leaves didn’t just sit there or form a clump.

Celery was actually the hardest ingredient here, but the blender still kept cutting through it easily. Because of that efficiency, the drink turned darker and more even as the greens were cut down smaller and smaller. After straining, only a small amount of fibrous material remained in the sieve, which indicated that the greens had been processed pretty finely. For such a short run, this BN301 totally won us over.

10 Crushed Ice Cubes

Last up is the ice-crushing test. We fill the cup with ice only and let it run until the ice is smooth. And at the beginning, the cubes moved quickly toward the blades instead of just bouncing around the sides, and that was important. Some blenders just spin and toss the ice without actually cutting into it. Here, we’d say the blades were actively shaving the ice down. The loud cracking sound in the first few seconds faded as the pieces became smaller and more uniform.

Because it was solid ice with no liquid, we did have to give the cup a few light shakes to help redistribute the pieces, but frankly speaking, that’s normal for this kind of test. So, after only a short run, roughly six ounces of ice turned into a fluffy, powdery texture. It almost looked like fresh snow. It was evenly crushed, light, and consistent. For something in this price range, that was a strong result and honestly one of the BN301’s highlights.

9.5 Design

The Ninja BN301 has a quality look and feel that many conventional personal blenders simply don’t match. It has a compact, rounded motor base with a silver outer shell and black trim, giving it more of a lightweight build than a bulky body. Similar to other basic models, it doesn’t come with flashy extras or advanced features. The blender won’t start without your involvement, but that’s part of the appeal. With a simple press-down motion, blending becomes more hands-on, which, for some users, creates a more satisfying sense of control.

  • A rapid extractor blade
  • Three 20-oz blending cup
  • Two spout lids

The package we received was in the best condition, with each piece having its place instead of being packed messily or crowded together. Thanks to this, we didn't experience any frustration while unboxing it.

Ninja BN301 Nutri Blender Plus Personal Blender Dimensions
Height
14.0" (35.6 cm)
Width
5.0" (12.7 cm)
Weight
4.1 lbs (1.9 kg)

This is one of the lightest blenders in our collection, so you are less likely to leave it in the cabinets unused just because its weight makes you feel it overwhelming to move.

At 14 inches tall by 5 inches width, it doesn't "eat" much counter space either— a must-have characteristic if you're living in a small apartment, dorm room, or you simply prefer something that fits your minimalist kitchen setup.

With this small footprint feeling closer in size to a large water bottle or travel tumbler, it's also travel-friendly, so you can pack it for a trip or move it between spaces whenever your routine changes.

9.5 Build Quality

Ninja BN301 Nutri Blender Plus Personal Blender Build Quality

You don’t necessarily need a blender that is easy to take on the go, but solid build quality is non-negotiable. A good blender should last through months of regular use, feel well-supported inside the base, and avoid the rattling or hollow vibration that can make a machine feel cheaply assembled. The BN301 meets those expectations without much to complain about. We also like how smoothly it runs. With a structurally balanced design, it does not shake excessively, even when handling tough ingredients. The cups also lock securely onto the base, so there is little chance that they will become loosely connected.

The blender features a distinct blade assembly with well-organized structure. It has a glossy black screw-on base with evenly spaced grip ridges around the side. The center is built around a raised metal shaft, where the 6-prong blades are securely mounted in a layered cross-style design, and this gives it a more dimensional shape compared with basic flat blade assemblies.

The blades themselves are stainless steel whose polished surface reflects careful finishing and good material quality. Not only that but the edges are cut cleaner than cheaper models as well. You also get consistent bends, and the central mounting area is neatly assembled.

Ninja has cleaned up the motor base’s overall form, giving it a slightly tapered waist instead of a plain cylindrical shell. That improvement makes the base more sculpted, even though the footprint remains compact. You might also notice how the satin metallic-gray body is framed by glossy black trim at the top and bottom, which creates a more layered and intentional construction for the whole unit.

Ninja has also paid attention to the parts of the motor base that we normally don't look at first. Underneath, the base isn't left as a flat plastic plate. Instead, it comes with rubber grip pads, molded product markings, and a cord exit channel.

It also includes an overheating protection system, which is designed to disable the motor temporarily if it gets hotter than usual, and to reset it, you simply unplug the unit and let it cool down for about 15 minutes before using it again. In fact, this is a common safeguard on most personal blenders, but we rarely had to see it step in during testing. So far, the NutriBullet SmartSense was the only model that shut itself off due to overheating-related issues. The others, including the BN301, continued operating without showing obvious signs of thermal overload or needing to cut power on their own.

All three included cups come in the same 20 oz. size and are designed to work interchangeably with the blade assembly, the two spout lids, and the storage lid. They’re made from BPA-free plastic, which is a good material note, so the clear surface seems less likely to scratch over time. Each cup also has visible measurement markings along the side— a kitchen-ready character you might like to have, especially because it allows you to measure directly in the same container you blend and drink from.

As mentioned above, this is an old-style blender despite its modern appearance, which means there is just one speed level, no separate button, and the cup itself is the control based on the press-down activation system. It's a simple setup, and many people love this because it removes the usual button clutter. After all, we don't really need extra switches or digital controls just to make a simple smoothie, especially when they only make the design busier and the price higher.

For the noise, it's easy on the ear and pretty much what we would expect from a personal blender. We wouldn’t call it silent, so don't expect a whisper-quiet motor here, but rest assured, it doesn't come across as harsh or painfully loud, either.

8.0 Usability

With its user-friendly design, the BN301 makes it easy to prepare yourself a quick drink while saving both time and hassle during busy mornings when there’s barely enough time to think, let alone clean multiple blender parts afterward. Its low-weight and compact build also contributes to its high usability — from setting it up to having a finished drink ready, the entire process can take just a few minutes without creating unnecessary clutter or frustration along the way.

7.0 Hands-Free Operation

Throughout this review, we’ve repeatedly mentioned that the BN301 is not a hands-free blender, and whether that means holding the cup down continuously or occasionally pausing to shake and redistribute thicker mixtures, that limitation does affect the overall experience more than it would on some competing models. Users who make a lot of drinks on a daily basis and prefer fully automatic blending may find this more inconvenient than we did, which is part of the reason behind the 7/10 score.

Even so, at no point does the experience feel irritating enough to turn the blender into a one-week kitchen obsession before disappearing into storage forever, at least for us. Not to mention that many drinks are ready almost before you have time to think about the lack of hands-free functionality at all—especially once you settle into the simple routine the blender naturally encourages.

10 Assembly

Fill the cup with your ingredients, twist on the blade lid, place it onto the base, and push down to blend. The entire setup process is remarkably smooth and uncomplicated, with every component sliding and locking together naturally—you won’t run into awkward alignment issues or the need to force components into place, problems that are far too common with poorly made blenders. Disassembly is just as straightforward afterward, and you should figure out how to do it without any learning curve.

9.0 Cleanability

Thanks to its smooth exterior, the motor base is easy to wipe down with a damp cloth after blending, while all ingredient-contact parts can safely go straight into the dishwasher without much concern about staining, discoloration, or long-term wear.

Some ingredients, such as sticky nut butters or fibrous greens, may still cling around the blades and gasket if left too long. In these cases, you’ll still need to follow up with a quick hand scrub using a bottle brush or smaller cleaning tool. Alternatively, you can run a quick blend cycle (30-60 seconds) with warm soapy water, which usually handles most of the mess on its own.
